- Accessory pancreatic ductDuctus pancreaticus accessoriusA smaller second drainage channel of the pancreas, running through the upper head of the gland to the duodenum.
- Anterior sacro-iliac ligamentLigamentum sacroiliacum anteriusA thin sheet of fibrous bands across the front of the sacro-iliac joint, joining the sacrum to the ilium inside the pelvis.
- Ascending colonColon ascendensThe first segment of the colon, climbing the right side of the abdomen from the caecum to the underside of the liver.
- Bile ductDuctus biliarisThe duct carrying bile from the junction of the hepatic and cystic ducts down to the descending duodenum.
- CoccyxOs coccygisThe small tailbone at the lower end of the vertebral column, made of a few reduced vertebrae below the sacrum.
- Descending colonColon descendensThe segment of the colon running down the left flank, from the splenic flexure as far as the pelvic brim.
- DuodenumThe opening segment of the small intestine, and its shortest, a C-shaped loop curving around the pancreatic head.
- GallbladderVesica biliarisA small pear-shaped sac on the underside of the liver that stores and concentrates bile between meals.
- Greater omentumOmentum maiusA large, fatty apron of peritoneum that hangs from the stomach's greater curvature over the front of the intestines.
- Ilio-inguinal nerveNervus ilioinguinalisA slender L1 branch that crosses the back abdominal wall and passes through the inguinal canal to the groin.
- Iliohypogastric nerveNervus iliohypogastricusThe uppermost branch of the lumbar plexus, curving around the abdominal wall to supply the skin of the lateral buttock and the lower abdomen.
- Iliolumbar ligamentLigamentum iliolumbaleA strong band on each side joining the fifth lumbar transverse process to the back of the iliac crest.
- Inferior pubic ligamentLigamentum pubicum inferiusA thick arched band beneath the pubic symphysis that joins the two pubic bones and rounds off the top of the pubic arch.
- Intercornual ligamentLigamentum intercornualeA small ligament on each side at the back of the sacrococcygeal joint, joining the cornu of the sacrum to the cornu of the coccyx.
- Interosseous sacro-iliac ligamentLigamentum sacroiliacum interosseumA mass of short, very strong fibres filling the gap between the sacral and iliac tuberosities behind the sacro-iliac joint.
- JejunumThe middle part of the small intestine, following the duodenum and leading into the ileum, coiled mainly in the upper left abdomen.
- Lesser omentumOmentum minusA thin double fold of peritoneum stretching from the underside of the liver to the stomach's lesser curvature and the duodenum.
- LiverHeparThe largest internal organ and gland, filling the upper right abdomen under the diaphragm and handling much of the body's metabolism.
- Meso-appendixMesoappendixThe small triangular fold of peritoneum that suspends the vermiform appendix from the back of the ileal mesentery.
- MesocolonThe fold of peritoneum and connective tissue that attaches the colon to the back wall of the abdomen and carries its vessels.
- Mucosa of stomachTunica mucosa gastrisThe soft, folded inner lining of the stomach, packed with the glands that make gastric acid, enzymes and protective mucus.
- Obturator membraneMembrana obturatoriaA thin fibrous sheet that closes most of the obturator foramen of the hip bone, leaving a canal at the top through which the obturator nerve and vessels pass.
- PancreasA long, soft gland lying across the back of the upper abdomen, making digestive juice and blood-sugar hormones.
- Pancreatic ductDuctus pancreaticusThe main duct of the pancreas, running the whole length of the gland to empty into the descending duodenum.
