The Anthromica Library
The human body one structure at a time. Every page has a 3D model you can turn, with its parts numbered on it, where it sits, what it does and what supplies it.

- Abducens nerve (VI)Nervus abducens (VI)The sixth cranial nerve, a purely motor nerve from the pons that moves the eye outwards by supplying the lateral rectus muscle.
- Accessory nerve (XI)Nervus accessorius (XI)The eleventh cranial nerve, a motor nerve that rises from the upper spinal cord, loops through the skull and supplies sternocleidomastoid and trapezius.
- Accessory nucleus of oculomotor nerveNucleus accessorius nervi oculomotoriiA small parasympathetic cell group in the midbrain, beside the oculomotor nucleus, that drives pupil constriction and focusing of the lens.
- Anterior division of mandibular nerveDivisio anterior nervi mandibularisThe smaller front trunk of the mandibular nerve in the infratemporal fossa, mostly motor to the chewing muscles with one sensory branch to the cheek.
- Auditory tubeTuba auditivaThe narrow bony and cartilaginous canal joining the middle ear to the nasopharynx, keeping air pressure equal on both sides of the eardrum.
- Buccal nerveNervus buccalisA sensory branch of the mandibular nerve that crosses the infratemporal fossa to supply the skin and lining of the cheek.
- Central canalCanalis centralisThe narrow fluid-filled channel running down the centre of the spinal cord, continuous above with the brain's fourth ventricle.
- Chorda tympaniA facial nerve branch crossing the middle ear to join the lingual nerve, carrying front-tongue taste and secretory fibres for two salivary glands.
- Cochlear nerveNervus cochlearisThe hearing part of the vestibulocochlear nerve, carrying sound signals from the inner ear's cochlea to the cochlear nuclei of the brainstem.
- Facial nerve (VII)Nervus facialis (VII)The seventh cranial nerve, which runs through the temporal bone to move the muscles of the face and carries taste, tear and saliva fibres.
- Glossopharyngeal nerve (IX)Nervus glossopharyngeus (IX)The ninth cranial nerve, a mixed nerve from the medulla serving the back of the tongue, the pharynx, the parotid gland and the carotid sinus.
- Hypoglossal nerve (XII)Nervus hypoglossus (XII)The twelfth cranial nerve, a purely motor nerve that leaves the medulla, loops through the upper neck and moves almost every muscle of the tongue.
- Inferior alveolar nerveNervus alveolaris inferiorThe large mandibular nerve branch running through the lower jaw's canal, supplying the lower teeth, the chin and the lip below.
- Lingual nerveNervus lingualisA branch of the mandibular nerve that curves down into the floor of the mouth, carrying touch and taste from the front of the tongue.
- Maxillary nerveNervus maxillarisThe middle division of the trigeminal nerve, a sensory nerve for the upper jaw, upper teeth, nose, palate and skin of the mid-face.
- Meningeal branch of maxillary nerveRamus meningeus nervi maxillarisA small branch of the maxillary nerve, given off inside the skull, that supplies the dura mater of the front of the middle cranial fossa.
- Mental nerveNervus mentalisA sensory branch of the inferior alveolar nerve that leaves the jaw through the mental foramen to supply the chin and lower lip.
- Motor nucleus of facial nerveNucleus nervi facialisThe cluster of motor neurons in the lower pons whose axons form the facial nerve's motor root and move the face.
- Motor root of trigeminal nerveRadix motoria nervi trigeminiThe small motor root of the trigeminal nerve, leaving the side of the pons and joining the mandibular nerve to supply the chewing muscles.
- Nerve to mylohyoid muscleNervus mylohyoideusA small motor branch of the inferior alveolar nerve that supplies mylohyoid and the anterior belly of digastric.
- Nucleus of abducens nerveNucleus nervi abducentisA motor nucleus in the lower pons beneath the fourth ventricle that drives the lateral rectus and coordinates sideways gaze of both eyes.
- Nucleus of accessory nerveNucleus nervi accessoriiA column of motor neurons in the upper cervical spinal cord whose axons form the accessory nerve to sternocleidomastoid and trapezius.
- Nucleus of hypoglossal nerveNucleus nervi hypoglossiA column of motor neurons near the midline of the medulla, under the fourth ventricle, whose axons form the hypoglossal nerve to the tongue.
- Nucleus of oculomotor nerveNucleus nervi oculomotoriusThe main motor nucleus of the third cranial nerve, a paired cell column in the upper midbrain that moves most eye muscles.
